How to use Heading
“Heading” is much weighted in Google and Inktomi algorithms. The H1 and title tag will give you quite a boost to your page optimization and your search engine rankings. Again, you should not repeat keywords in this tag, as it will be seen as spam. If you want to have subheadings underneath the main Page headings, your best bet is to create a cascading stylesheet (CSS) file that declares classes for different classes of H1 tags. For those of you who are not familiar with CSS, please read the tutorial at w3schools.com. You can then gain the high rating Google places on the h1 tag, while having different font sizes and colors, etc. declared in your CSS file. A simple h1 tag example would be:

Due to their abuse by unethical webmasters and SEO’s, the weight given to heading tags is not what it could be however the content between these tags is given increased weight over standard text. There are rules to follow with the use of heading tags that must be adhered to. If you use heading tags irresponsibly you run the risk of having your website penalized for spam even though the abuse may be unintentional.
When using your heading tags try to follow these rules:
· Never use the same tag twice on a single page
· Try to be concise with your wording
· Use heading tags only when appropriate. If bold text will do then go that route
· don’t use CSS to mask heading tags
Header Tags (e.g. H1 and H2 tags): More weight is given to keywords that appear within H1 tags, then H2, H3 and so on.
